Napoli’s Hirving Lozano has found himself in the midst of reported fervent transfer interest, with Arsenal apparently joining the chase alongside Newcastle United and Olympique Lyon, according to sources in Italy.
The player had previously been linked with these clubs in January and it now seems a summer move could be on the horizon.
Fox Sports Mexico last month fuelled speculation of Lozano’s return to his former club, PSV Eindhoven. However, Italian media have expressed doubts, given Lozano’s previous comments about being open to a move to “another big league”.
This makes a switch to Arsenal or another Premier League outfit, a possible scenario, although Newcastle United would seem a more likely move at this point.
Lozano has had a mixed season with Napoli, featuring in 41 games but playing only 56 percent of the total available minutes. The Mexican striker, despite suffering from a recent knee injury, was a part of Napoli’s championship victory on May 4 against Udinese, contributing four goals and as many assists this season.
A summer transfer seems plausible, considering Lozano’s contract with Napoli runs till mid-2024. According to FootballTransfers, Lozano’s Expected Transfer Value (xTV) currently stands at €30.4 million.
Lozano’s history in Eindhoven was remarkable, making his move to the Netherlands in 2017 when PSV paid a substantial €8 million to Mexican club Pachuca. Over his stint with PSV, Lozano clocked 79 official games, netting 40 goals and providing 23 assists. His sterling performances earned him a national championship with PSV in 2018.
His subsequent transfer to Napoli in 2019 for a whopping €45 million shattered records in Eindhoven and Naples. The deal surpassed Gonzalo Higuaín’s transfer as Napoli’s most expensive, and Memphis Depay’s move to Manchester United as PSV’s costliest outgoing transfer.
With the 27-year-old’s impressive track record, it’s no wonder that clubs like Arsenal are reportedly keeping a keen eye on his situation.
As the summer transfer window nears, it remains to be seen where the Mexican striker’s future lies, whether at the Emirates, elsewhere in the Premier League, or in another “big league”.
