Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Tottenham to seal a “statement” deal for Jordan Pickford this summer with Everton set to cash in on their prize assets.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old’s new deal at Goodison Park “means nothing”.
Tottenham have been widely linked with a move for Pickford despite the England international signing a new long-term contract with Everton in February.
However, Football Insider revealed the bombshell Everton news on Monday (22 May) that the club have no money to spend on signings this summer and will operate a sell-to-buy policy.
Pickford has kept seven clean sheets and conceded 60 goals in 37 appearances for relegation-threatened Everton this term.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (14 May) that Spurs captain Hugo Lloris is set to exit this summer after a Saudi Arabian club tabled a “jaw-dropping” offer to the veteran.
Fraser Forster has stood in for Lloris during his struggles with injury this season.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’ve said this all season.
“Even before he signed the contract, it was clear that Pickford replacing Lloris is just an easy transfer for Spurs.
“He’s English, he’s a top goalkeeper, he’s experienced, he can play from the back.
“Even though he’s signed a new contract – it means nothing.
“I would still go for him. Make a statement.
“Goalkeepers are a big part of where you need to go right as a football club, and Lloris is not good enough.”
