Southampton are ‘set to make club-wide cuts’ after relegation from the Premier League… with ‘hundreds of staff across multiple departments warned they could face redundancy’
Southampton are reportedly set to make a number of job cuts throughout the club following relegation from the Premier League.
The Saints’ 11-year stay in the top-flight came to an end earlier this month after a 2-0 home loss to Fulham.
Relegation will see a massive change to Southampton’s financial position, with huge income streams from the Premier League set to drop away.
According to The Athletic, an email was sent to 340 members of staff which said a ‘restructure’ would take place and warned them some roles across all departments face redundancy.
The announcement stated the club’s ‘difficult’ situation has forced them to adjust its budget and staff requirements ahead of next season.

The Saints’ relegation from the Premier League after 11 years was confirmed earlier in May
Southampton will hold talks next week with staff, who will find out if they are at risk of redundancy, see if their role will change as part of a restructure, or be retained.
The south-coast club endured a disastrous campaign having gone through three managers in their attempts to avoid the drop.
Nathan Jones replaced Ralph Hasenhuttl in November but lasted just 14 games, winning one, and was sacked in February. Ruben Selles took charge for the final months of the campaign but was unable to keep Saints up.
On Monday, chief executive Martin Semmens stepped down from his role following relegation having been in the post since 2019.
The Saints have also confirmed Selles will leave the end of the season after talks.
A statement read: ‘Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has held conversations with Men’s First Team Manager, Ruben Selles, and decided that his contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of the season.
