Speaking on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, Turkish reporter Nevzat Dindar claimed that Arsenal have made a €17m (£14.8m) bid for Galatasaray defender Sacha Boey.
As it stands, that doesn’t look like it will be enough to convince Galatasaray to sell, with the Super Lig club hoping for a fee closer to €25m.
Boey still has a couple of years left on his deal, and though he’s clearly open to a summer move, Galatasaray want a little more money to sanction it.
Former Gunner Hector Bellerin has been linked with a move to Galatasaray to replace the French u20 international, should Arsenal eventually reach an agreement to sign him.
Boey plays at right-back, and he’s made 31 appearances so far this season.
We know Arsenal are looking to strengthen on the right-hand side of defence, with Takehiro Tomiyasu and William Saliba’s injuries exposing how short the squad is on that side.
But given Ben White and Tomiyasu are both capable of playing at centre-back or at right-back, Arsenal have some flexibility in the market.
Whether they sign a central defender or a right-back, the other position can be covered by moving the existing players around.
For the time being, it seems Arsenal are delaying any further advances in Boey’s case.
The Gunners are taking time to consider their options, and it remains to be seen whether they’ll make another bid closer to the €25m Galatasaray reportedly want.
