Fans won’t believe what West Ham have done with their kit ahead of the Euro final against Fiorentina on Wednesday night.
West Ham are preparing to face Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final in Prague on Wednesday night.
The big match is now just FOUR days away and the excitement is building.
And West Ham are trying to take advantage of that when it comes to their merchandising it seems.
The majority of West Ham fans cannot stand this season’s third kit effort by Umbro.
The ‘you’ve been Tango’d’ orange and white strip is something of an abomination.
So it was no surprise to see it on sale for just £27 in West Ham’s online store recently. And reports have emerged saying West Ham will change into their traditional claret and blue for photos should they win the final.
Fans won’t believe what West Ham have done with their kit ahead of the Euro final
When it was confirmed that West Ham would play Fiorentina, who wear purple, in the final, those following the UEFA draw a couple of months ago would have been aware that meant the Hammers – as the “away” team – would have to wear the orange and white third strip.
But fans won’t believe what West Ham have done with their kit ahead of the Euro final.
The club has hiked the price of the third shirt from £27 to £80 after adding some Euro final stitching.
West Ham have added a UEFA Europa Conference League badge on one sleeve and the fixture wording and date on the chest and have nearly TRIPLED the price of the shirt.
West Ham state only 1,500 are going to be sold thus making it a ‘limited edition final shirt’.
Opinion: It smacks of opportunism and leaves a sour taste
Of course the club has to capitalise on these events with merchandising, it’s the name of the game.
But the price is utterly ludicrous. Even if it came in a special commemorative box with a final programme and a poster or the like, £80 would be a stretch.
This just smacks of opportunism from the club and shows how out of touch they can be with the fans at times.
It leaves a sour taste and is a big PR own goal. And many West Ham fans will see as an attempt to rip them off despite their loyal support over land and sea this season.
I’ve headlined this story ‘fans won’t believe what West Ham have done’. But the problem is many WILL believe it – and that says everything.
But you can bet your bottom dollar they sell out – especially if the Hammers lift the trophy on Wednesday night.
