Ticking contract timebomb for Bowen
West Ham may well have another ticking contract timebomb on their hands in the form of Jarrod Bowens deal. It transpires that Bowen has precisely the same amount of time remaining on his contract as want-away Declan Rice.
There has been much haste and concern in trying to protect the club from a depreciating asset with Dec. However it seems the Hammers are also in a similar situation with Bowen but terms of their respective deals are different. Declan’s deal runs until July 2023 but West Ham retain and option for a further two years whereas Bowen’s expires in 2025.
Whichever way you wish to cut and slice it both players are contracted for a further two years. Concerningly there only appears to be urgency surrounding Declan’s depreciating value. It should be pointed out that Claret & Hugh approached the club asking for clarification of any Bowen contract talks but were informed it was ‘confidential’.
What we do know however is that the club entered into negotiations with Bowen over a new deal in 2022. Whilst I’d not suggest that Bowen has quite the same profile as Rice, he is incredibly important to West Ham. We cannot allow a situation where another key player runs his contract down.
Bowens’s Value
Jarrod Bowen is possibly valued at £40-50 million on the balance sheet. However once any contract get’s close to 18 months the value will surely depreciate quite drastically. Personally I’m quite concerned about the situation because Bowen is such a key player.
In many respects I believe West Ham to be the perfect club for him but he’ll certainly be on the radar of our rivals. It’s imperative the board tie him down for what will be the best years of his career.
