Fiorentina have two big injury scares including their star player ahead of the West Ham Euro final clash as their manager hopes for good news.
Excitement is building as West Ham prepare to face Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final in Prague on June 7th.
The big match is now just FOUR days away.
Excitement will soon be replaced by jangling nerves and tension as the Hammers edge closer to Wednesday’s historic match.
The winners will automatically qualify for next season’s Europa League with West Ham aiming to end a 43-year major trophy drought in the process.
Fiorentina get two big injury scares including star player ahead of West Ham Euro final clash as manager hopes for good news
Fiorentina will comfortably be the best team West Ham have faced in the competition this season. And by some distance.
Much has been made about the fact West Ham will have had 10 days with no game while Fiorentina were in action in their final Serie A match of the season against Sassuolo on Friday night.
La Viola looked good as they strode to a 3-1 win. But it may have come at a cost.
Fiorentina have two big injury scares including their star player ahead of the West Ham Euro final clash as their manager hopes for good news.
Argentinian winger Nicolas Gonzalez is one of Fiorentina’s best players and someone West Ham will have to contain if they want to win on Wednesday night.
La Viola boss and player concerned but hopeful
But he limped off injured in the win over Sassuolo as did midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli.
Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano admitted he is concerned about the duo ahead of the West Ham clash.
And he says Castrovilli, who spent most of last season out of action following knee surgery, was worried about the extent of a knee issue he has picked up.
However he is hoping both will not be as bad as feared and will be ok for the final.
‘He was frightened’
“Nico collided with the post and that looked pretty painful, but I hope it is nothing but a bruise,” Italiano told DAZN after the game.
“Gaetano was frightened, as his knee had a strange movement, but it seems to be fine now. He was much calmer in the locker room.”
Italiano, who lauded West Ham ahead of the final when speaking earlier this week, also looked ahead to the Hammers clash after the game. And he believes beating Sassuolo is important for confidence and momentum.
“It was important to win today and give ourselves a mentality boost, especially as our opponents have had the full week to prepare for the final,” he said.
“We know that we are up against a strong side, even if they haven’t done that well in the Premier League this season, but are full of quality players and have a good coach.
“There is a mountain for us to climb, but we are ready and will try to do our best.”
