Speaking in an interview with The Beautiful Game Podcast, released at the end of May, Tyreece John-Jules confirmed his Arsenal contract is up in 2024.
John-Jules has just completed his loan with Ipswich Town, where he started out as a regular and made 21 appearances, only for his spell to be cut short by injury setbacks.
Over the last few years, John-Jules has also gone out on loan to Doncaster Rovers, Blackpool FC, Lincoln City, and Sheffield Wednesday, though injuries have been an unfortunate theme of many of those spells.
Looking to the future, John-Jules feels he needs to settle down at one club for longer than just one season.
“I just want to settle somewhere,” John-Jules said. “Whether that’s signing a new contract at Arsenal or going somewhere else on a permanent.
“I think it’s time to settle down and just focus and chill, instead of hopping from loan to loan.
“Like you say, just trying to settle and focus on one team would be ideal, whether that’s Arsenal or somewhere else.
“Obviously I’ll be at Arsenal for pre-season and there will be talks that will need to be had. What I do for that season, whether I stay or go. Leave on a permanent, there’s a talk that will need to be had at some point.”
As well as his bad luck with injuries, John-Jules believes he’s also been a bit unlucky with the timing of his Arsenal career so far.
After he started to go out on loan, the striker saw many of his academy teammates getting chances in the first team.
“It was tough, because while I was going on loan, people were getting opportunities at the time,” John-Jules said.
“I’m thinking if I stayed, that would’ve been me. But I guess you can’t really think like that, you’ve just got to do what you’re here to do on loan.”
John-Jules is yet to make his competitive debut for Arsenal, despite appearing on the bench on six occasions.
But he’s done well in friendly appearances for the Gunners, scoring in a friendly in Dubai in 2019 before setting up the winner in another friendly against Bayern Munich later that year.
Perhaps pre-season this summer could provide another opportunity for John-Jules to make his case for further involvement with Arsenal this season, or a good transfer elsewhere.
