The Hammers duo were magnificent together during the 2020/21 season, with Dec sitting deep and the 28-year-old bombing forward, scoring 10 Premier League goals in the process.
However, David Moyes inexplicably swapped both players’ roles at the start if the 2021/22 campaign, and since then Soucek has regressed badly. He is not a deep-lying midfielder because of his terrible ability when in possession of the football.
After that failed experiment, Moyes has changed the role that Soucek plays and put him back in his more familiar position in all fairness to him.
The Czech midfielder’s aerial strength is vitally important for West Ham. Soucek and Rice will play a key role for the Hammers in the Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina on Wednesday night.

Tomas Soucek admits he has noticed a big change in West Ham teammate Declan Rice
The 28-year-old has been speaking to reporters ahead of the biggest match we have faced as a club for 17 years.
And Tomas Soucek highlighted the big changes he has noticed in Declan Rice, as quoted by the Daily Mail:
“It’s great for me to see how he’s changed not just as a player but also as a leader. He deserves to lift the trophy with West Ham as captain. It will be massive for us but for him even more special.”
Soucek is right – Rice has come on leaps and bounds since he made his senior debut for the Hammers against Burnley way back in 2017.
The 24-year-old is now undoubtedly one of the very best central midfielders in the game. Unfortunately for us, we probably won’t see him in a West Ham shirt again after the final on Wednesday.
He will definitely go on to win everything there is to win in the game – I have no doubts in my mind about that.
Tomas Soucek’s comments on Declan Rice proves just how much of an influential figure he its at the London Stadium. To say that will be miss him when he’s gone is an understatement.
