West Ham have learned the price to get a deal done with Man United for unwanted star Harry Maguire it is being reported.
West Ham have been consistently linked with a move for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire for some time now.
Last month it was claimed a deal between West Ham and Man United could be on the cards for Maguire to ease FFP concerns at Old Trafford.
The same report stated West Ham’s interest in the England defender was genuine back in January.
And the London Stadium is the most likely destination for the man Manchester United are so desperate to ship out, they’re willing to pay him £10m to leave.
The Daily Mail claims West Ham are the clear favourites to sign Maguire this summer.
‘Those who know the market believe’ West Ham learn the price to get a deal done with Man United for unwanted star Harry Maguire
And the pay-off from Man United will lower his wage demands to a more affordable level that the Hammers are paying other top first team stars.
West Ham will have around £200m to spend this summer including the £100m they hope to get from selling Declan Rice.
With several key positions to address, the Hammers will have to ensure that money is well spent.
So West Ham will not want to be paying over the odds for a Red Devils outcast like Maguire. Especially one who turns 31 next season.
Now West Ham have learned the price it will take to get a deal done with Man United for unwanted star Maguire.
Would it be money wisely spent for the Hammers?
According to The Athletic’s Manchester United reporter Laurie Whitwell, Man United want £40m for the defender if West Ham want to sign him.
“Manchester United are looking to make sales to generate funds for Erik ten Hag’s squad building and Harry Maguire is a player who could command a significant fee…” Whitwell says.
“He has two years left on his contract and those who know the market believe he could be worth £40 million.”
Would that be money well spent for West Ham? Kurt Zouma cost the Hammers £29.5m from Chelsea but was younger than Maguire.
Conversely, though, Maguire has a better injury and fitness record and would arrive as potential captaincy material too.
Perhaps a middleground of around £30m could be found and that would look like a good deal for Man United and West Ham should they get around the table.
