According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool is reportedly monitoring Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu, who is also attracting interest from Benfica.
While Benfica is currently the frontrunner to secure the Turkish international’s signature, Liverpool is keeping a close watch on the situation.
Kokcu played a significant role in Feyenoord’s triumph in the Dutch league this season, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions from midfield.
Hence, the Reds are showing interest in Kokcu, who is known for his versatility in playing as a central midfielder or a number 10.
He possesses excellent skills in passing, creating chances, accurate long shots, and taking set pieces. Kokcu’s current contract with Feyenoord extends until the summer of 2025. His future plans are yet to be determined.
Liverpool is on the verge of signing Alexis Mac Allister, and the deal could be finalized soon. However, the team recognizes the need for additional midfield reinforcements to improve their performance in the upcoming season.
They are currently in contact with the agents of French midfielders Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone. However, Kokcu presents a unique skill set that aligns with Jurgen Klopp’s vision for Liverpool’s midfield players.
As a playmaker, the Turkish midfielder can offer goal-scoring contributions from the midfield, an aspect that has been lacking in Liverpool’s recent performances.
While missing out on the 22-year-old wouldn’t be catastrophic, as there is a possibility of Benfica securing his signature soon, Liverpool supporters may prefer the club to pursue a proven player who can ensure a consistent performance in the Premier League.
