There is an exciting Harvey Barnes update for West Ham as Leicester take action which makes it clear the star is leaving.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for flying attacker Harvey Barnes following his relegation with Leicester City.
Last week it was claimed by journalist Matt Law that West Ham were leading the race for £40m rated Barnes.
Then The Guardian stated the Hammers want to wrap up a deal to sign the 25-year-old England international as soon as possible.
After an initial flurry of reports regarding Barnes joining West Ham, things have gone quiet on that front in the last few days.
But now there’s an exciting Barnes update for West Ham as Leicester take action which makes it clear the star is leaving.
According to sources speaking to Football Insider, Leicester have made a move to sign their direct replacement for Barnes.
The report claims the Foxes are trying to sign jet-heeled Colorado Rapids winger Jonathan Lewis as a ready-made replacement for Barnes, who is expected to leave the King Power imminently.
“Leicester City plot raid to sign USA star to replace Harvey Barnes,” the report states.
“USA international Lewis could be available for around £500,000 due to having less than 18 months to run on his current contract.
“Barnes, who Leicester are hopeful Lewis could replace, has made 187 appearances for the Foxes since he arrived in 2018 and has netted 45 goals in those outings.”
West Ham fans are seriously excited by the prospect of a move to sign Barnes.
So news that Leicester are actively working on signing his replacement suggests he could be on his way out of the King Power very soon indeed.
And that tallies with The Guardian’s claims that West Ham want to get a deal done ‘as soon as possible’.
Having Jarrod Bowen on the right and Barnes on the left would make the Hammers a serious goal threat and add some much needed pace to the side.
With talk that Maxwel Cornet could be used as a striker if he remains at West Ham, it makes sense too.
Said Benrahma was one of West Ham’s better players last season.
But Barnes has more pace and is a bigger goal threat. He could also be used as a forward in the right system.
And given David Moyes’ success rate at turning wingers into potent strikers, that could be something the Scot explores.
