A Sun journalist has made a Man City claim that West Ham co-owner David Sullivan will love as Arsenal show themselves up.
There could be a further development in the tussle between Arsenal and Manchester City to sign Declan Rice from West Ham.
After months of speculation Arsenal submitted a formal bid for the Hammers skipper last Thursday.
But it was miles short of West Ham’s £100m plus valuation and was rejected out of hand by the Hammers board.
Reports have emerged since that Manchester City are lurking with serious intent.
Fans of both West Ham and Arsenal were left incredulous when details of Edu’s first bid to the Hammers were revealed.
And last night Fabrizio Romano claimed Pep Guardiola is pondering making a move for Rice despite a deal being on the cards for Man City to sign Mateo Kovacic.
Sun journalist makes Man City claim that West Ham co-owner David Sullivan will love as Arsenal show themselves up
That may explain why Arsenal were sparked into action today as they went back to David Sullivan and co with an improved bid.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth revealed Arsenal’s second bid was just £75m guaranteed with £15m in add-ons.
Unsurprisingly it was instantly rejected by West Ham, who have made it clear for well over a year – via manager David Moyes and the owners – that they will not entertain anything less than £100m.
Fans of both the Gunners and West Ham are growing frustrated by Arsenal’s approach to negotiations – methodology that has cost the north Londoners signings in the recent past.
Now a Sun journalist has made a Man City claim that West Ham co-owner Sullivan will love as Arsenal show themselves up.
‘Man City could make a late entrance after second Gunners bid rejected’ claims journalist
According to The Sun’s Jordan Davies, Man City ‘could yet make a late entrance’ into the Rice bidding war.
“The latest on Declan Rice and Arsenal: second bid rejected, £90m total with £75m guaranteed up front,” Davies said on Twitter.
“West Ham want £100m. Man City could still make late entrance.”
That will be music to the ears of West Ham co-owner Sullivan.
Regardless of reports stating Rice has made it clear he only wants Arsenal, if Man City make a better bid, then Arsenal will have no choice but to match it.
Opinion: If you want to sign the captain of one of your London rivals you have to cough up the money
What planet are Arsenal on? No wonder their own fans are growing frustrated with the way they are conducting themselves. The Gunners are being mocked and nicknamed Klarna.
Rice’s valuation has been the worst kept secret in football for over a year.
The Gunners need to appreciate what they are getting if they sign Rice. Not just a hybrid generational midfield talent but a leader, fantastic character and someone who is fit and available every single week.
You don’t just take the captain from a club like West Ham for peanuts. The Gunners also need to appreciate that they are the ship passing at the right time in the right place. Rice wants to stay in London and play Champions League football. Arsenal are the only club that can tick those boxes right now.
And you can bet your bottom dollar if Chelsea were in the Champions League he’d be wanting to go back to his boyhood club instead.
If you want West Ham’s captain Arsenal – pay what he’s worth or move on.
