Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Man United’s Scott McTominay would be the “perfect signing” for Everton with Sean Dyche’s side not able to take any “risks” in the market this summer.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted a deal for the 26-year-old could be difficult – insisting he could see himself as “better than Everton” after success at Old Trafford.
Sources told Football Insider on 10 June that Everton are likely to be in the race to sign McTominay this summer – even if their financial situation makes a deal “very hard to do”.
It is believed the Toffees will rely on player sales to raise funds for any transfer business in the off-season.
McTominay made 39 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign – but managed only 16 starts in those outings.
He has extensive experience in the Premier League having amassed 144 top-flight appearances since coming through the youth ranks at Old Trafford.
Alex Iwobi and Amadou Onana are among the Everton midfield stars to be linked with potential summer exits.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think it’d be the perfect signing for Everton.
“But it’ll be difficult to get him. He’d probably think he’s better than Everton – because he’s proved himself at Man United.
“Everton need players like him. He’s got Premier League experience and you know you’d be getting good, honest performances from him.
“It’d be a great move if they go out and get McTominay in. They can’t afford to get players who are unknown in this league.
“They’re going to be in a relegation fight unless they bulk up the squad with experience – they can’t take any risks.”
