Ange Postecoglou’s first Tottenham signing set to arrive on Monday as Guglielmo Vicario deal nears completion
It seems Ange Postecoglou could have his first signing at Tottenham Hotspur by Monday, with Spurs closing in on a deal for Guglielmo Vicario.
This is according to Italian outlet Il Tirreno, who claim that Vicario could be confirmed as a Tottenham player by July 26. The two teams have apparently shaken hands on a fee of €25million including add-ons for the player.
Tottenham needed to replace Hugo Lloris immediately. We probably delayed it by a year last summer when he did not sign a quality goalkeeper to challenge him for a starting spot.
Fraser Forster was obviously always going to be a backup. Lloris, 36, is no longer the player he was during his heyday and he was becoming error-prone recently.
Good deal from Spurs’ point of view
Not to mention, he had two lengthy injuries last season which destabilised our team at the back to a certain extent, even though Forster didn’t do a lot wrong in his absence. But it was time to find a new No. 1
Vicario seems to be that man. The fee isn’t audacious because perhaps the 26-year-old is an unknown quantity to many outside Italy.
He has been called up by Italy’s national team recently on the back of a strong season for Empoli. But he hasn’t made himself a household name yet.

Spurs seemed to have scouted him smartly and have gotten themselves a financially sound deal. He is at an age where he has a lot of experience and can still get better. The earlier he arrives, the better. He will have more time to gel with the squad as a result.
