Liverpool is widening their search for quality midfield reinforcements before the next season, as they reportedly are looking at Nicolo Barella as a promising option.
The report was first made by Simone Pieretti of the Italian publication Il Tempo and has been echoed by many close to Inter’s camp and beyond. Barella is reportedly high on Liverpool’s list of targets and the club is said to be ready to pay whatever it takes to get the deal over the line.
Liverpool’s admiration for the player isn’t exactly something out of left field. The club has said to have looked at him as a viable option in the past and even has sent scouts to attend Inter games regularly to look at Barella’s progress throughout the 2022/23 season. The interest has been there for a long time, and this window, it’s started to become a bit more concrete.
Barella has been a rock in the midfield for Inter and the Italian national team for about four years now and he’s executed all his duties to a tee. He’s technical, and creative, and can hold the ball for long periods of time, giving his teams a sense of stability in the middle of the pitch.
While the reports from Italy have mentioned that Liverpool will be going all guns blazing trying to sign the midfielder, it is hard not to take this news with a pinch of salt. Barella is an elite midfielder, and his price tag fits his reputation.
Barella’s transfer value of around €80m is not a small ask for any club in the world, but if Liverpool is ready to make their team a winning one again, they should be ready to fork out the cash that’s required.
