Tottenham Hotspur overcame Inter Milan competition for Guglielmo Vicario
Tottenham Hotspur apparently overcame competition from Serie A giants Inter Milan to agree fee for Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario.
This is according to the Evening Standard, who claim a £17million fee has been agreed between Spurs and Empoli for the goalkeeper. He is set to complete his move to the Lilywhites in the coming days.
Spurs were frustrated in their negotiations with Brentford for David Raya and decided to move for Vicario instead. He had a great season with Empoli as he helped them avoid relegation.
They finished 14th in the league and Vicario played a big role in keeping them afloat. Now, it seems that he is headed to north London instead of Milan or anywhere else.
Well done Spurs
Beating Inter Milan in the race for the Italian goalkeeper is no small feat. They would have offered him the chance to stay in Italy and keep playing in his homeland.
Moreover, they are a giant in European football and will play in the UEFA Champions League next season. Spurs offer no participation in UEFA competitions next season. Inter are also likely to be without Andre Onana next season.
Their superstar goalkeeper, signed just last summer from Ajax, has already been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League. According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United and Chelsea have both shown interest.

Hence, Vicario could have seen playing time with I Nerazzurri. Yet, it seems, he chose us. He is 26 and still has years ahead of him where he can improve. From what we saw of him last season, he has amazing reflexes and is an excellent shot-stopper. This seems like a superb deal by Spurs.
