Ange Postecoglou wants Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is eyeing a reunion with Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers at the North London side this summer, according to the Sunday People (print edition) [h/t The Scottish Sun].
The Australian manager already has his eyes on former stars Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate. In the previous campaign, the Japanese forward and midfielder were pivotal to the Glasgow-based club’s success.
Now, Carter-Vickers has also been added to the gaffer’s wishlist. The USMNT star was a former Spurs player before his move to Scotland in the summer of 2021.
Since then, the centre-back has developed and thrived at Celtic. In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow-based club, scoring one goal. Postecoglou’s team ended up winning three trophies.
Carter-Vickers made his way through the youth ranks at Tottenham. Subsequently, he made a few appearances here and there for the North London side.
The USMNT star spent a few seasons out on loan at places like Sheffield United, Swansea, Stoke City and Bournemouth. However, after failing to break into Spurs’ first team, Celtic came knocking for his signature.
Tottenham’s backline has not lived up to the mark for some time now. Over the last few years, we have had to use Ben Davies on the left-hand side of a back three. It is not the Welsh national’s natural position, which can often be seen in his performances.
We got Clement Lenglet last summer on loan from Barcelona. Unfortunately, the French national did not catch a lot of people’s attention. On the other hand, the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have been underwhelming for some time now.
