Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new wide forward in the upcoming 2025 transfer intervals, and the North Londoners have been linked with a move to sign Manchester City highly acclaimed winger Jack Grealish.
The England international’s involvement under Pep Guardiola has been reduced to a bits-and parts role in the ongoing season, and on a fair note, Grealish hasn’t been able to replicate his Aston Villa form at City despite moving to the Premier League champions in a highly anticipated £100 million move from Villa Park.
Is a Grealish move to Spurs on the cards?
With his role limited, City are open to selling the winger, and Tottenham are looking to take advantage of the situation to land Jack Grealish on a cheap deal. That being said, Daniel Levy is expected to face an uphill battle to land the player owing to his hefty £300K-per-week salary, per Give Me Sport, and it is difficult to see the American Chairman pushing the wage books beyond their current structure, especially given how Tottenham have focused on maintaining financial sustainability over the years.
The Manchester City winger’s £300K-per-week demands would make him the highest-paid player at the club, a move that will disrupt the existing wage structure that Levy has created and indirectly unsettle the squad dynamics.
However, Tottenham can save up on transfer fees for his signatures, with former Spurs scout Bryan King suggesting that City would be looking for a fee of half of what they paid (i.e., £50m+) to acquire his signatures while acknowledging that he doesn’t see Spurs splashing such a sum for the former Villa winger.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King said:
“I can’t see Grealish joining Tottenham.
“Manchester City will want a substantial fee for him. After all, they signed him for £100million, and it is going to be difficult to get that money back.
“However, they will want at least more than half of it back if he leaves the football club. I just can’t see Grealish at Spurs. If he came to London, there are an awful lot of distractions, it is a big city, I just don’t think Tottenham is the club for Grealish.”
While the idea of Grealish moving to Tottenham brings a level of excitement given his potential creativity in Postecoglou’s current attacking setup, the financial hurdles make this a complex deal at the moment.
