What are going to do about Gianluca Scamacca ?.
Declan Rice and the transfer saga are taking all the headlines at the moment but we have another conundrum closer to home
The Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca has been the subject of intense speculation too and like the Rice situation everything seems to be still up in the air
Whether it is the forward pushing for a move, David Moyes looking to cut his losses after a difficult debut season or simply a case of Serie A clubs being desperate to bring him back to Italy it all remains to be seen.
There has been claim and counter claim about Scamacca and his future.
After only 11 Premier League starts for the Hammers, the 6ft 5in striker is being heavily linked with a move back to Italy, most recently with Roma, where he spent time as a youngster.
Michail Antonio made some refreshingly honest if perhaps , unwise and unhelpful comments about Scamacca’s situation recently.
However Antonio did make a salient point about his teammate’s situation. He merely said what everyone else had been thinking, however unprofessional that may have been.
On the possible replacement front, West Ham are being linked with a number of strikers including Viktor Gyokeres, Jonathan David and Armando Broja to name but three.
Sadly, injuries and illness disrupted Scamacca’s debut season with the Irons culminating in knee surgery back in April.
Nevertheless, Scamacca still continues to divide opinion among West Ham fans. Some believe the club should keep him and try to get the best out of him next season. Others feel he is simply not suited to the Premier League or playing up front in a Moyes team.
One thing is for certain, though, if he does depart, we will fully expect him to be replaced by a top forward.
