Arsenal’s record Declan Rice bid has been rejected claims a reporter close to West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan.
The transfer saga between Arsenal and Manchester City for West Ham captain Declan Rice is nearing an end it seems.
The tussle to sign Rice from the Hammers has flip flopped more than a politician in the last week.
Man City looked favourites to sign the West Ham talisman yesterday when they bettered Arsenal’s last bid and reports abound that Pep Guardiola had met with the midfielder.
But today Manchester City have pulled out of the race after the Gunners submitted a British record £105m bid – £5m of which is in add-ons.
Arsenal’s record Declan Rice bid has been rejected claims reporter close to West Ham co-owner David Sullivan
As reported at the weekend, a top source inside West Ham insisted Rice was ‘determined’ to join Arsenal.
So with Man City no longer an obstacle, the player keen and the record bid submitted, Arsenal fans were all ready to start getting their Rice shirts printed for next season.
But Arsenal’s record Rice bid has been rejected claims a reporter close to West Ham co-owner David Sullivan.
A ‘top source’ inside West Ham has told Hugh Southon – who has very close ties with Sullivan – that the £105m bid was rejected this morning.
Gunners nicknamed ‘Klarna’ for approach to Rice negotiations
And it is claimed that West Ham’s majority stakeholder Sullivan is insisting Arsenal must pay the fee over a maximum of 18 months rather than the four-year term in the Gunners’ latest offer.
The report states: “Sullivan rejects four year payment deal from Arsenal.”
“Arsenal now appear to have little option but to concede to his demands if they are to make Rice their massive summer signing,” Southon states on Claret and Hugh.
“Our source told us this morning exclusively: ‘They have offered 100m plus £5m of add ons but the terms of payment are too slow, so we are still negotiating’.”
Arsenal have been mocked by supporters – included their own fans – and nicknamed Klarna for the way they have approached Rice negotiations with West Ham thus far.
But it now seems only a matter of time until satisfactory terms are agreed.
