Reports claim West Ham United could be looking to replace Michail Antonio with 6ft 3in Japan striker sensation Keisuke Goto.
West Ham boss David Moyes is being linked with a number of strikers in the summer transfer window.
That is perhaps no surprise with the futures of Gianluca Scamacca, Michail Antonio and January signing Danny Ings all uncertain at West Ham beyond this window.
The Hammers have been linked with a host of forwards including Viktor Gyokeres, Jonathan David and Armando Broja.
Now a completely new name from left field has emerged as an alleged West Ham target. And the future of Antonio, who turns 34 next season, is said to be in serious doubt with interest from elsewhere.
Reports: West Ham looking to replace Michail Antonio with 6ft 3in Japan striker sensation Keisuke Goto
Reports claim West Ham are looking to replace Antonio with 6ft 3in Japan striker sensation Keisuke Goto.
The Daily Mail claims West Ham are looking to revamp their forward lin this summer. And it certainly needs it based on what Moyes’ side served up for most of last season’s Premier League campaign.
The report states that Turkish giants Galatasaray are looking to sign Antonio, who has one year left on his current West Ham contract.
And it appears Moyes has his Goto man lined up as Antonio’s replacement – quite literally.
Because another report from The Daily Mail states that West Ham are said to be eyeing a move to sign Japanese strike sensation Goto, who towers over opponents at 6ft 3in despite being just 18.
The Jubilo Iwata forward is described as an exciting talent who was tipped to star for Japan at World U20 Championships but suffered an injury which ruled him out.
Goto is by no means your typical target man, though. While he can and does make the most of physical attributes, he is also extremely quick and often drops deep to pick up possession before breaking into the box according to the report.
“Capped throughout his youth career by his country, he is being tipped to make a breakthrough into the full squad over the next year if he continues his progression,” the report states.
“Goto could be brought into the UK under the GBE rule where young players of exceptional talent that don’t qualify to work here under the normal points system are given exemption.”
