Everton star Amadou Onana features on the West Ham shortlist as they target replacements for outgoing captain Declan Rice, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (1 July) Everton need to raise transfer funds to allow Sean Dyche to make moves in this summer window – leaving them vulnerable to a bid for Onana.
West Ham are considering taking advantage of the Merseysiders’ situation to bring the Belgium international to the London Stadium.
The Irons agreed a fee with Lille for Onana last summer (2022), but he rejected a move in favour of a Goodison Park switch.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (1 July) that West Ham are ready to reinvest most of the £105million fee received for captain Rice in this summer window.
Onana is being targeted to replace the England international in the heart of David Moyes’ midfield after an impressive first season in England.
The 21-year-old made 35 appearances across all competitions last season, notching one goal and two assists.
It is believed West Ham are also keen on Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.
However, the Mexico international is also wanted by Borussia Dortmund – who are leading the race for his signature.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Moyes’ side are also keen on Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.
The 28-year-old would not be a direct replacement for Rice but fits the profile of a second midfielder the Irons are looking to add this summer.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (1 July) that Ward-Prowse is expected to leave Southampton following their relegation.
