A new report claims West Ham have talks planned to sign two players from the same club as focus shifts from outs to ins.
Tim Steidten is in the door, the summer transfer window for international deals is officially open and Declan Rice is close to finally leaving West Ham in a British record £105m deal.
So now West Ham boss David Moyes can really start to focus on reshaping his side in key areas.
The biggest priority is clearly central midfield.
And the Hammers have been linked with a plethora of midfielders in the last two months.
They say there is no smoke without fire and links this week have centered around Juventus and Chelsea flop Denis Zakaria.
Report: West Ham have talks planned to sign two players from the same club as focus shifts from outs to ins
On Friday Tuttosport claimed Juventus sporting director Giovanni Manna is due to fly to London to thrash out a deal with the West Ham heirarchy for Swiss international Zakaria.
But there has been a twist as another player will also be on the agenda it seems.
A new report claims West Ham are in talks to sign two players from the same club as focus shifts from outs to ins.
According to TMW – as also reported by Football Italia – Juventus will also be discussing a deal for Brazilian Arthur Melo – who was on loan at Liverpool last season.
Hammers are interested in flops claims report
Melo failed to make a single Premier League appearance for the Reds and spent four months out injured.
The report claims West Ham are interested in both Zakaria and Melo.
Given Steidten now has overarching responsibility for West Ham’s scouting and recruitment, one can assume that – if true – they are players he has identified prior to being confirmed in his new role.
‘Talks scheduled in London on Wednesday’
“As reported by Tuttosport via TMW, one of Manna and Juventus’ goals now is to find new homes for unneeded midfielders Zakaria and Arthur, so he’ll travel to London next week to continue discussing possible deals,” Football Italia reports.
“West Ham are interested in the pair, so Manna will head to the English capital on Wednesday to personally negotiate their possible transfers.”
It is fair to say both Zakaria and Melo would have it all to prove at West Ham if they did sign.
Zakaria has completely flopped at Juve and Chelsea and it is the same story for Melo in Italy and at Liverpool following his departure from Barcelona.
But if these are targets of West Ham’s new technical director then fans will just have to trust his data-driven process.
