There has been a major twist in the West Ham move for Everton star Amadou Onana as a journalist makes a new claim about the player’s wishes.
As West Ham fans know only too well, Everton came in at the 11th hour to beat the Hammers to the £33m signing of Amadou Onana last summer.
The Toffees swooped and offered Onana a greater guarantee of a starting spot and David Moyes reportedly pulled the plug on the move.
But West Ham reportedly remain interested and Moyes is said to want Onana as a replacement for the departing Declan Rice.
Major twist in West Ham move for Everton star Amadou Onana as journalist makes new claim about player’s wishes
Last week journalist Alan Nixon claimed Moyes serious about signing Onana and said Everton are willing to sell to West Ham for right price.
Financial Fair Play concerns were said to be a driving force behind Everton’s potential Onana sale to the Hammers. And the giant Belgian midfielder was said to be valued between £40-50m by the Toffees.
Another journalist, Paul Brown, then claimed Onana as open to joining West Ham.
Now there has been a major twist in the West Ham move for Everton star Onana as journalist Nixon makes a new claim about the player’s wishes.
Player makes Moyes wait over decision claims Nixon
In an update on his Patreon site, Nixon says West Ham are waiting for Onana to give them his decision.
And he believes the player is waiting for a Champions League club to come in for him.
“Hammers face a wait to find out what Everton midfielder Amadou Onona plans to do,” Sun journalist Nixon said.
“David Moyes is keen on the Belgian international but the player would prefer a Champions League club if he moves.”
Onana, 21, impressed for Everton with his ability and leadership for one so young.
But he lost his place under Sean Dyche towards the end of last season and it looks increasingly likely he will be sold.
Whether West Ham will be able to use the lure of London and Europa League football to persuade Onana remains to be seen.
