Chelsea are seemingly in the market for another forward, but getting one of their primary targets over the line could prove difficult.
Mauricio Pochettino has already added to his forward line, with the additions of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.
However, as Chelsea found goals hard to come by last season, they are still in the market for another forward this summer.
Links recently emerged to Roma forward Paulo Dybala, who has long been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano even stated that Pochettino is a big fan of the 29-year-old, although the club are currently focused on other deals.
“Mauricio Pochettino is a super big fan of Paulo Dybala but the focus now at Chelsea is on Moises Caicedo, it’s crucial to understand this,” Romano revealed on his podcast.
“Also, Chelsea are trying to things less random this summer, less negotiating for 5-7 players at the same time, do things step by step, focus on the top target.”
Chelsea’s interest in Dybala does make sense. The Roma forward brings goals and creativity to the table and would be a suitable Kai Havertz replacement.
However, despite Chelsea’s interest, Dybala looks more than likely to snub a move to the Premier League right now.
According to Calciomercato, Dybala is willing to sign a new contract with Roma and dismiss Chelsea’s interest.
The report states that the Italian club are willing to bump up his wages in an attempt to keep him in Italy.
Along with this, they would also like to remove his release clause, which is currently set at just €12m for foreign clubs.
The 29-year-old scored 12 league goals and provided six assists in Serie A last season. He has also formed a fine partnership with former Chelsea man Tammy Abraham.
Chelsea could yet reignite their interest, but it currently seems more than likely that Dybala will be staying in Italy.
Before entering negotiations with Dybala, Chelsea will want to finalise a deal for Caicedo. According to the latest reports, Brighton are looking for a fee of £100m for their prized asset.
