Tottenham are reportedly stepping up their interest in Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella as Ange Postecoglou looks for a new left-sided defender.
Since making a £55m move from Brighton last summer, Cucurella has had a tough time in a Chelsea shirt.
The Spanish defender featured in 33 matches across all competitions last season but struggled to find much form at Stamford Bridge.
Spurs could offer the 24-year-old a lifeline as they are eyeing up a replacement for Ivan Perisic.
The Croatian star has been heavily linked with a move to Hajduk Split, which would leave Spurs short in the wing-back department.
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham are ‘closely following’ the situation with Cucurella and they could soon make a move.
The report also states that Chelsea are ‘desperate’ to get rid of the 24-year-old after a disappointing debut season.
Chelsea have already seen a number of first team players depart this summer and it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Cucurella join that list.
During his fist press conference as Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino insisted that he trusts the Chelsea hierarchy.
“We are working really hard,” the Argentine coach explained. “I trust this football club and the owners and what I need to do is to coach, to guide them to achieve what we expect and what our fans expect.
“I’m not going to talk about the past. All of the people in Chelsea and our fans need to be positive and try to really believe.
“I’m still not trying to think of the biggest challenge. It is important to finish the squad and have a balanced squad.
“In football, it is difficult to wait. At Chelsea you need to deliver from day one. We are working now in the training ground is about delivering from now, to give our best.”
Chelsea have already been boosted by the arrivals of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, but there is still plenty of work to be done on their squad.
