West Ham United team news
Moyes could look to use West Ham’s pre-season friendly with Dagenham & Redbridge as his chance to recall Lucas Paqueta, Said Benrahma and Ben Johnson. The boss omitted the trio from the Hammers’ travelling squad ahead of their friendlies in Australia earlier this month.
Paqueta had not returned to training at Rush Green before the Irons jetted off to the other side of the world. He represented Brazil following the climax of the 2022/23 domestic term. The midfielder also picked up an injury that delayed the start of his allotted three weeks off.
Benrahma also did not travel to Australia after representing Algeria at the end of June. While Johnson missed West Ham’s pre-season tour as he helped England to win the U21 European Championships. The right-back played four times during the tournament, but not in the final.
Prediction: Dagenham & Redbridge (1) vs (4) West Ham
Hammers News predicts West Ham will continue their pre-season friendly winning streak at Dagenham & Redbridge. This summer has already now seen the Irons brush aside Boreham Wood 4-1, beat Perth Glory 6-2 and edge Tottenham Hotspur 3-2, bagging 13 goals to date.
So, the Hammers will expect to score freely at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, as well, on July 22. While the West Ham players yet to feature due to going on international duty during June should also try to use the clash as their chance to impress Moyes after a delayed start.
Moyes will also hope the friendly produces West Ham’s first clean sheet of the summer. They claimed a two-goal lead over Tottenham after 23 minutes. But quickfire second-half goals by Giovani Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie pulled Spurs level before Gianluca Scamacca scored.
