There is a ‘business as usual’ message coming out of West Ham, regardless of the current head coach crisis. It seems that whatever the position on the pitch, with the impending possibility of sliding further down the Premier League on the resumption next week, Hammers bosses are in no mood to bend to the whim of so-called ‘want away’ players.
The unrest which has led Guido Rodriguez to go public with his regrets of coming to London Stadium were given short shrift buy the club source- as Gonzo wrote earlier he would only be sold if the club can cover costs and certainly won’t be waved good bye at a loss. Similarly from fotballinsider247.com comes the suggestion that Liverpool have received short shrift regarding the possibility of acquiring Mohammed kudus on the cheap – no deal! As the report summarises: “West Ham will not accept any cut-price move for Liverpool winger target Mohammed Kudus”.
The Ghanaian has an £85 million release clause which kicks in again in the summer so West Ham will not be selling him for less: Contracted until summer 2028 the Irons have no need to sell, however much Kudus tells his agent to get him out of London to Liverpool or Arsenal if the rumours are to be believed.
Time for the self-styled ‘Star Boy’ to get his head down and maybe prove to everyone that he’s really worth £85 million instead of getting red carded and falling out with his head coach, neither of which are likely to endear him to any new prospective buyer.
It is a worrying trait as news keeps seeping out from under the door at London Stadium that several key players want out. It cannot bode well for Lopetegui’s future that he does seem to be on the thinnest of thin ice with the dressing room.
