Pochettino keeps Hammers waiting
New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino will make decisions on Chelsea’s wanted players once the club returns from its pre-season trip to the United States.
David Moyes is understood to be keen on striker Armando Broja but it is believed the player remains keen to stay at Stamford Bridge
The Hammers boss has long been linked with a move for the 21-year-old forward, who has attracted interest from several clubs.
However, no decision on his future will be made for a week or two until the former Spurs boss has had the opportunity to assess him and others.
The same will presumably be true of a candidate to replace Aaron Cresswell, defender Ian Maatsen – as we look to add youth to our rapidly ageing squad,
The young Maatsen spent last season on loan with runaway Championship winners Burnley, being a colossus in defence and scoring four goals and assisting a further six times .
Speaking at his post-match press conference after Chelsea beat Wrexham 5-0 in a friendly in North Carolina, Pochettino said decisions on the futures of various Blues youngsters would be taken after the squad returns to London.
Pochettino said: “There are players we need to assess and see what happens with them. There are many decisions we need to take, but it’s good to have the opportunity to see all these guys.
“I think it’s important for them and us to have a real assessment. All have quality – they need time to show that they can compete for a place at this club.
“I am happy with all of them. It’s always difficult in the first game. We’ll see what goes on and when we’re back in England we will decide the future of these young players.”
