Daichi Kamada deal collapses to hand West Ham a shock new chance to sign the free agent who played Declan Rice off the park.
West Ham are yet to sign a player in the summer transfer window and are desperately in need of class and quality in midfield following the departure of Declan Rice.
So who better than a player who Rice admitted himself had played him and his Hammers teammates off the pitch?
West Ham’s painful defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final last year spurred David Moyes’ side to go one better when they lifted the Europa Conference League back in June.
But one player who has stuck in the minds of West Ham ever since that defeat to the Germans, is classy Japan midfielder Daichi Kamada.
Classy Japan ace became West Ham target after shining against them
It is fair to say Kamada was the star player in that semi-final clash.
So much so West Ham have been credited with a keen interest in Kamada ever since.
Earlier this year Hammers News reported claims from Germany that Frankfurt had given up hope of getting Kamada, who is out of contract this summer, signed up to a new deal.
We then reported on an official announcement from Frankfurt that Kamada would be leaving them on a free transfer.
West Ham had been heavily linked given the fact the club is searching for midfielders with Manuel Lanzini having also left the London Stadium.
But their hopes looked dead in the water when reports emerged that the 26-year-old was on his way to AC Milan.

There has been a major development overnight, though, which could put the Hammers right back in the mix.
The Kamada deal has collapsed to hand West Ham a shock new chance to sign the free agent who played Rice off the park.
Fabrizio Romano and Football Italia are reporting that Milan are closing in on signing Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal.
And as a result the deal that had been lined up for Kamada has collapsed.
“AC Milan, working to seal Chukwueze deal very soon… it means that Daichi Kamada deal would collapse,” Romano said.
“Kamada had verbal agreement with Milan but deal looks set to collapse due to full extra UE spots.
“AC Milan have chosen Chukwueze. Kamada, available as free agent soon.”
An absolute no-brainer if ever there was one for West Ham.
Superb player, great age, quick, agile and someone who can play between the lines – something the Hammers desperately need.
Kamada is also seriously hardworking and does plenty off the ball too. He’s a wonderful all round midfield star. And technical director Tim Steidten will know all about him too from his time in Germany.
