And then there was one – Fulham are about to leave West Ham in a league of their own as transfer window tardiness becomes clear.
If there was an analogy for West Ham’s activity thus far in the summer transfer window, it would be ‘all talk no action’.
Because despite being linked with a plethora of players in all manner of positions – and with the new season now just over three weeks away – the Hammers are yet to make a single signing for their first team.
Of course that may mean nothing come the close of the window if West Ham manage to get some quality signings in the door.
But David Moyes has always made it clear he likes to get his players in the door early so they can have a good pre-season under him and get to know their new teammates.
And then there was one – Fulham about to leave West Ham in a league of their own as transfer window tardiness becomes clear
As reported on Hammers News, West Ham started the week as one of just three Premier League clubs yet to make a signing alongside cash-strapped Sheffield United and Fulham.
And then there was one – because Fulham are about to leave West Ham in a league of their own as transfer window tardiness becomes clear.
This week Sheffield United left West Ham and Fulham as the only clubs yet to bring anyone in when they signed Anis Ben Slimane from Brondby and Yasser Larouci on loan from Troyes.
Fulham had looked set to lose one of their star players when Willian’s contract ran out and he was on the verge of a move to Nottingham Forest.
But he re-joined the club to “officially” become a new arrival. But in reality he wasn’t so West Ham and Fulham remained tied in this particular transfer window contest.
Cottagers on brink of signing impressive duo as West Ham wait goes on
Now Fulham are on the verge of bringing in not one but two genuinely new summer signings.
The Cottagers are on the brink of signing Ajax star Calvin Bassey and impressive Southampton centre-back Mohammed Salisu.
Versatile ex Rangers ace Bassey is posed to undergo a medical with Fulham after the Whites agreed a fee of just over £18m with Ajax for the Nigerian international.
And Fulham are also said to be close to agreeing a £15m deal with Saints for Salisu. The news is being widely reported and by the likes of Sky Sports transfer specialist Dharmesh Sheth in the post below.
Quality over quantity is key for Hammers
Unless the Hammers can get a rumoured move for Carlos Borges over the line, that will leave the east Londoners as the only club in the top flight yet to make a signing with the season now just three weeks away.
Ironically West Ham have been trying to sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham.
Reports claim a second bid is imminent after the west London club rejected a £45m opening offer.
Moyes has always made it clear he prefers to get his players in as early as possible in pre-season so they have time to get to know the team and how West Ham play.
Of course there is still plenty of time until the window closes at the end of August. And it’s about how West Ham spend their money rather than how much they spend.
Let’s hope the club can start getting some quality in as soon as possible so West Ham can try and get off to a flying start.
