A new striker is bottom of the priority list as the lid is lifted on the alleged West Ham transfer plan with the club struggling to do deals.
That’s according to a new report from Football Insider in the wake of very worrying claims about West Ham’s activity in the summer transfer window.
Last night Hammers News reported that Fulham are about to leave West Ham in a league of their own when it comes to transfers.
Because an imminent Fulham double deal will leave West Ham as the only club in the Premier League yet to make a signing for their first team this summer. Unless a reportedly imminent deal for Carlos Borges is completed first.
There was concerning news from a reporter close to David Sullivan overnight too.
A board confidant claims West Ham are seriously struggling to get any other deals remotely close despite the new season being just three weeks away.
Realistically West Ham need two midfielders to replace Declan Rice, a new left-back, a centre-back and a forward with Aaron Cresswell, Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca all being tipped to leave.
But a new striker is bottom of the priority list as the lid is lifted on the alleged West Ham transfer plan with the club struggling to do deals.
According to sources speaking to Football Insider, West Ham have a three step plan for their transfers.
The report claims that a forward signing is one of West Ham’s priorities but bottom of that particular list rather than top.
“It is believed West Ham are keen to wrap up signings in central midfield and at centre-back first…” the report states.
“The willingness to add midfield signings comes after the British-record sale of captain Declan Rice, which was finalised last week.
“West Ham are ready to add a new centre-back after struggling with injuries and the departure of Craig Dawson in the 2022-23 campaign.”
Given David Moyes always likes to work from a solid base and prioritises defensive stability and organisation, this is no real surprise. And the need for new central midfielders is very acute following Rice’s exit.
But West Ham’s biggest issue for most of last season was their inability to score goals.
And that is what saw the Hammers flirt with relegation for the majority of the campaign.
Borges is an attacking player. And being signed as a reported £15m he will clearly be arriving to compete for a first team spot.
Whether that is wide left or as a striker remains to be seen.
West Ham do have Maxwel Cornet and Jarrod Bowen, who can both play up front. And they also have Gideon Kodua and Divin Mubama bubbling under too.
So only one big forward signing is needed even if both Scamacca and Antonio depart.
