Transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed that “conversations have definitely happened” regarding a Chelsea move for Dusan Vlahovic, as Mauricio Pochettino is “tempted” by another forward signing.
So far this summer, new Blues boss Pochettino has recruited two definite first-team forwards. Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have shared the responsibility of the no.9 role in the two pre-season games so far.
There’s not another central striker in the squad for their tour of the United States. In their full squad, there are just two others remaining: Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku.
That’s after the exits of Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer. Both Broja and Lukaku could soon leave soon as well, the former on loan and the latter on a permanent transfer.
Reinforcements up top have been mooted, with Juventus star Vlahovic a name that has cropped up a lot over the past few weeks. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio stated the striker was “on the market” not long ago, with Juve ready to “listen to offers”.
He also explained how the Serie A side would attempt to sign Lukaku if Vlahovic was to leave. Interest in the Belgian could lend itself to an easy deal for both parties, with the players essentially swapping places, presumably with some cash also going to Juve, with Vlahovic valued around £68million.
Now, transfer insider Jones has reinforced that Chelsea are keen on Vlahovic, contrary to the beliefs of some.
“I know some people are ruling out of Vlahovic and they say that nothing is happening there,” he told GIVEMESPORT.
“But Vlahovic has definitely been explored by Chelsea and conversations have definitely happened in terms of that.
“The fact that they are even contemplating that tells you they’re tempted to go and sign another striker by the end of this transfer window.”
Conversations over Vlahovic could conceivably lead to the Blues moving for him. And it’s not a surprise that they are tempted by signing another striker.
There’s a chance that Jackson and Nkunku are the only central striking options at the club come the start of the season. What’s more, Pochettino recently suggested the latter is only playing there in pre-season due to a lack of options at present.
As such, it might well be that he’s looking to add another forward to the attack so that the Frenchman can operate in a different position. Vlahovic could be the perfect fit, given he’s been so effective when fit over the past few seasons.
