Now, pay attention at the back !
Tim Steidten is now the club’s new Technical Director and is one of the best talent spotters in Europe. His track record at Bayer Leverkusen speaks for itself. If he is given control of transfers, West Ham can come out of this transfer window a much stronger team than they went into it. Assuming of course, that our Supremo does not waste most of it on the ridiculously over priced James Ward Prowse.
Following the departure of Declan Rice , we don’t just need the one replacement, we need multiple players to the London Stadium.
We have a strong goalkeeping unit in Alphonse Areola, Lukas Fabianski and Joseph Anang . So there is need to spend money on goalkeepers.
I would say that we have some depth in central defence as well with the likes of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer, Angelo Ogbonna, and Luizao. Who all will be able to offer the flexibility to play a back four or a back three.
Full back is a different story though, left and right.
After two good consistent seasons at the club, Vladimir Coufal appears to be on the decline physically and the popular Czech should be moved on to make way for a replacement.. Aaron Cresswell is leaving for Wolves and Emerson Palmieri is consistent only in his inconsistency.
As previously reported on CandH , the young Ian Maatsen seems like a perfect fit at left-back. The Dutch defender had an outstanding season last season with Burnley as they galloped their way to the Championship title.
For right back, we need to look no further than Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen, at age 22, would represent a significant upgrade on what the Irons currently have in that area
As for the replacement for Rice. The ideal choice would be Amadou Onana, but he seems to be priced out of our range, with his value seemingly increasing by the hour.
Perhaps we should look at the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone. The 22-year-old is perfect fit for the Premier League . According to reports , he is an excellent ball carrier, and has the potential to be a goal scoring box-to-box midfield- transfermarkt have him valued at £40m which is more than fair.
Our forwards are a cause for concern as well, we really need a striker. Perhaps Mubuma could be the answer with Bowen, Paqueta, Benrahma, Fornals, and Cornet all good options for the three spots behind the striker.
We are now in a league of our own as Fulham have just signed a new player, leaving the Irons the only team yet to have a signing.
The clock is ticking !
