West Ham bid £40 million for Chelsea star
West Ham have reportedly offered £40 million offer for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. The news was announced late last night by numerous media outlets and ITK’s, however the remaining details were vague.
Some were reporting the Hammers bid had been immediately rejected, whilst others suggested talks would continue today. As ever Claret & Hugh will endeavour to get clarification on the move from our top source. Whilst all stories vary in their reporting of the transfer fee, the add-ons appear to be in the region of three million.
Guardian journalist and board confidante Jacob Steinberg last night tweeted. “Some surprise within West Ham at suggestions they have bid £42m plus £5m for Gallagher. First bid was £37m plus £3m in add-ons. They are confident they have the edge over Spurs if Gallagher leaves Chelsea. West Ham also enquired about McTominay and made opening offer for Ward-Prowse”.
Steinberg has a good track record on reporting West Ham’s transfer dealings, so his report is probably closest to the truth.
However, even at the lower figure, the combined offer of £40m seems a little high for Gallagher. That being said, he is the correct age profile for the board and hopefully his Premier League experience will encourage Moyes.
