Hammers make opening bid for midfielder
West Ham have been reported as having made an opening bid of £25 million for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse.
It is believed the Saints had a £40 million tag attached to the midfielder who was part of last season’s relegated club.
According to The Telegraph, which has good contacts with the Irons board, the 28 year old will be allowed to move on as new manager Russell Martin shapes a squad for a quick Premier League return.
He is a player who very much fits the Moyes desire to use set pieces as a major goal scoring weapon and is seen by some as being in the David Beckham category in that area of the game.
He has been at Southampton for his entire career and played 11 seasons in the Premier League with them before their relegation last season. Clubs were looking at him before he committed to a new deal at St Mary’s in 2021.
