James Ward-Prowse has been left out of the Southampton squad for a friendly after the West Ham bid as a Sky Sports reporters deliver the “official line”.
West Ham have ratcheted up their summer transfer window activity in the last 48 hours and it’s about time too.
With two midfielders being targeted by David Moyes, it is no surprise to learn West Ham have launched bids for at least four players in that position.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham have held positive talks with Southampton over the signing of midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
“One source has told Sky Sports News an agreement is edging closer, and personal terms are not expected to be a problem,” the report states.
When players are being linked with big money moves in pre-season, it is always well worth keeping an eye on teams and squad for friendly matches.

So there may have been a big development in any potential deal between the Hammers and Saints for their captain.
Because Ward-Prowse has been left out of the Southampton squad for a friendly after the West Ham bid as Sky Sports reporters deliver “official line”.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday evening, reporters Dharmesh Sheth and Kaveh Solhekol both confirmed Ward-Prowse’s absence from the Southampton squad for a friendly with Bournemouth following the offer from West Ham.
And they say the official line coming out of Southampton is that it is a “precautionary measure due to a knee injury”.
That was met with the response “Where have we heard that before during the transfer window” from the presenter on Sky Sports News.
Many fans will be thinking the same thing.
Whether it is any indication that West Ham are closing in on the world class set-piece specialist remains to be seen.
Ward-Prowse scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 39 starts in a poor Southampton side last season.
Those figures are impressive and Moyes will be hoping he can get even more out of the 28-year-old England international in a better side should he join the Hammers.
