Opinion: West Ham will have to cough up big fee as Flynn Downes rejects move to Southampton
With the Hammers midfielder refusing to join Southampton, the owners will have to cough up a big fee for Ward-Prowse, if he is indeed the man who Moyes wants to sign this summer.
The Saints are allegedly demanding around £50 million for the 11-capped England international (Give Me Sport).
That’s just too much money as far as I’m concerned.
Moyes should simply explore other targets – the like of Ibrahim Sangare, Khephren Thuram and Sofyan Amrabat in my opinion.
Another point is that I strongly feel as though Flynn Downes should not be moved on from West Ham this summer.
The 24-year-old really impressed whenever he was given a chance last season, and he’s more than good enough to play regularly for the Hammers this season as far as I’m concerned.
I wouldn’t mind West Ham signing Ward-Prowse at all, but it’s clear to see that we’ll have to spend big on him rather than sending Downes in the opposite direction as part of the deal.
