Dele Allis has a chance to revive his career at Everton this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton backed Sean Dyche to get the best out of Alli.
The 27-year-old has massively struggled for game time at Goodison Park since his arrival in January 2022 and spent last term on loan at Besiktas where he experienced similar difficulties and picked up an injury in March that left him sidelined towards the end of the campaign.
The former England international has entered the final 12 months of his contract on Merseyside.
As quoted by The Times (7 August), Dyche confirmed that Alli is still “miles away” from a return to the first team squad given his injury problems.
When asked if Alli will be given a chance in the first team next term once he’s back to fitness, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he will have to prove it.
“You are probably starting from zero under Sean Dyche. He wants a particular type of player, especially somebody that is going to work and give everything for the team.
“First and foremost he has to get back fit, healthy, get his mind in the right place and if he can do all that, we all know he is a great player it is just about bringing it back out.
“Dyche is probably a guy that can get that out of him but you have to work hard. It is probably little steps at the moment, he will have to work his fitness back up and then try and get game time.
“I am sure he will be given the opportunity it is just whether he is ready to take it or not. He has had a difficult time over the last few years but he has to put it to the side.“
