Fabrizio Romano reveals that Tottenham did not make a £40m bid for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur did not make a deadline-day bid of £40m for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher in the recently concluded 2023 summer transfer window.
It has been a fruitful summer for Spurs who have new management and a revamped roster. Ange Posteoglou is bringing about a change in north London and several new faces now could evolve into heroes.
The final day of the summer window was awash with Tottenham’s move for Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson. The young attacker adds another versatile option to the Spurs ranks, providing Postecoglou with yet another arrow in his quiver.
Another player who was linked with a move to the N-17 was Chelsea star Conor Gallagher. The English midfielder was touted to level Stamford Bridge all summer but is now set to stay put at least until January.
Romano has now revealed that Spurs did not in fact make a bid for Gallagher. While it is true that the 23-year-old was on our radar, a deal was unlikely given the failure to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Dutchman was also linked with several clubs in the summer, including Fulham on deadline day. His failure to move to Craven Cottage did not just any prospect of us bidding for Gallagher but also Bayern Munich signing Palhinha. A transfer window domino effect if there was one.
It is unfortunate as Gallagher is a far more mobile player than Hojbjerg and would have fit Postecoglou’s system to a tee. Having him alongside James Maddison could have given us enough ammo to seize control in the middle of the park, feeding the likes of Son Heung-min several goal-scoring opportunities.
