Tottenham Hotspur prospect Alfie Devine is training with Gareth Southgate’s England squad
According to football.london, Tottenham Hotspur starlet Alfie Devine is currently training with the senior England squad at St George’s Park on Tuesday.
The Spurs prospect is currently with the England under-20 squad for a training camp as they prepare for the upcoming Euro U20 Elite League in October. However, the senior squad called up a few youth players for training to make up for absentees.
The 19-year-old was among those called up and will benefit from training under Southgate and sharing the field with some of the nation’s best players. There is no reason why such exposure cannot accelerate Devine’s development.
A versatile midfielder, Devine is currently on a season-long loan at League One side Port Vale. He has made two appearances for them so far, netting the winning penalty in stoppage time against Oxford United last weekend.
Now he is linking up with the English team, marking yet another feather in his cap this summer. There is little reason to believe Devien cannot go a long way should he continue to develop as expected.
Devine now has the chance to link up with teammate James Maddison at least in the short term. This could lay the seeds for what can be a solid pairing for Spurs in the future.
The 19-year-old has all the potential in the world and the onus is now on him to make the most of those chances. Sooner or later, everyone should see what the fuss is all about.
