Tottenham Hotspur star Ivan Perisic will miss a major chunk of action due to a torn ACL injury
As revealed by the club’s official website (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Tottenham Hotspur’s Ivan Perisic is set to have surgery due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee, and as a result, he is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
The Premier League giants announced this development on Wednesday. The 34-year-old midfielder has featured in six matches for Spurs in various competitions this season, contributing with two assists.
Perisic, who joined Tottenham on a free transfer last summer, arrived at the club with high hopes.
The fans hoped that the Croatian talent would reunite with his former manager, Antonio Conte, and bring a valuable winning mentality and experience to bolster the Spurs’ team.
Despite a challenging season for the Lilywhites, the veteran player managed to deliver 12 assists in various competitions, although he found the back of the net just once.
There were strong indications that the former Inter Milan winger might leave the club during the summer transfer window.
However, no transfer materialised, and the experienced player has since participated in every match under the team’s new coach, Ange Postecoglou, during the current season.
Nevertheless, Perisic’s future remains uncertain, and there remains a possibility that he will be in the headlines as his contract expires next summer.
The current injury is a huge setback for the player who could have got a chance to prove himself under his new manager.
Injuries, especially ones like ACL injuries, are always disheartening for players, as they can have a severe impact on their careers.
Perisic had been making a positive contribution to Tottenham’s new system, making his absence for a significant portion of the season a regrettable loss.
It is hoped that the Croatian star can make a successful return to action with the club before heading to Euro 2024 with his national side.
