Follow Mail Sport’s live blog for the latest updates and news from Old Trafford On Wednesday following Manchester United‘s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Both Manchester clubs have profited from fruitful academies over the years and midweek may represent a chance for some youngsters to make the first-team squads for Carabao Cup fixtures.
Mail Sport looks at a number of teenagers who are knocking on the door of Erik ten Hag and Guardiola, hoping to become the next to be given an opportunity.
Man United boss Erik ten Hag says Alejandro Garnacho must show his ‘great qualities every day’
Erik ten Hag has challenged Alejandro Garnacho to keep ‘learning’ and get even better, describing his early season form as ‘not good enough’.
Young winger Garnacho, 19, started the opening two league games against Wolves and Tottenham but was handed just 12 minutes of action since coming off in north London, ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Palace.
Garnacho took his opportunity with the opening goal at Old Trafford, bursting into the area to meet Diogo Dalot’s cutback.

While United pursued their main summer targets and picked them off one by one – Mason Mount followed by Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund – Amrabat waited patiently in Italy and prepared for the new season with Fiorentina.
Maguire was handed his first start of the season in Manchester United’s opening Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening as Erik ten Hag looks to give the England international an opportunity to fight for more minutes.
Struggling performances have seen Maguire fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford, but ex-United centre-back, Bruce, believes Maguire is good enough to be a mainstay in most Premier League sides.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has claimed he would have felt ‘ashamed’ had his performances in training been criticised publicly, as he urged Jadon Sancho to apologise to manager Erik ten Hag.
Sancho is currently being kept away from the first team as he continues his stand-off with Ten Hag amid his refusal to apologise for his public comments against his manager.
First-half strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro sent the hosts on their way to the fourth round of the League Cup before Anthony Martial added a third with his first goal of the season.

The Portuguese star emerged as a dazzling teenage winger at United before gradually being converted into a deadly forward who once scored them 42 goals in a season.
Meulensteen worked on Sir Alex Ferguson‘s coaching staff from 2007 until 2013, overlapping with Ronaldo’s final two seasons at the club, and he has spoken about how they honed his finishing skills.
Manchester United star Antony is flying back to England to face police over allegations of domestic abuse, according to reports.
The Brazilian winger was granted a leave of absence by the Premier League club earlier this month, after his former lover Gabriella Cavallin claimed he had attacked her on January 15 in a hotel in Manchester.
The Sun unveiled pictures of Antony at Sao Paulo airport on Tuesday night as he prepared to board flights to Spain and then Manchester.
The 27-year-old made his long-awaited first start for United on Tuesday since joining the club on a season-long loan from Fiorentina and showed his willing adaptability to help the cause.
Amrabat is usually deployed as a combative central midfielder but against United’s London visitors was forced to deputise at left-back while Sergio Reguilon was rested.

Manchester United may have bossed Crystal Palace as they breezed into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford – but just 17 miles away their under-21 side were being taught a lesson of their own by Bolton.
United’s under-21s were thrashed 8-1 by League One outfit Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on a chastening night for coach Travis Binnion.
Sections of United’s support – many of whom travelled with anti-Glazer banners – opted to attend the game in Bolton instead of the senior team’s 3-0 win over Palace.
The United boss cut an unimpressed figure in his post-match TV interview when asked about the banished England winger after a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace, before he was asked again in his press conference.

Erik ten Hag is already looking at bolstering his options in attack ahead of the winter window and according to reports has identified a familiar face as one of his top targets.

Mason Mount puffed out his cheeks, took a two-step run-up before dropping a dime of a corner right onto the head of an onrushing Casemiro.
As team-mates swarmed towards the Brazilian – his fourth goal this season making it 2-0 and taking the game away from a poor Palace side – Mount threw both arms up, took one look to the sky before turning to the fans to let rip with a fist pump.
With the No 7 on his back it was hard not to draw comparisons to his predecessors in that jersey. The delivery was Beckham-esque in its whip and accuracy and while it would be unfair on Mount to draw any further comparisons in a shirt worn by club legends like George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo, this was to be his breakout moment at Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag rang the changes for the cup clash, handing Harry Maguire his first start of the season and summer recruit Sofyan Amrabat his full debut at Old Trafford.

After a start to the season in which very little seems to have gone right for Manchester United and Erik ten Hag, finally a night when they could do no wrong.
An excellent full debut for Sofyan Amrabat, a victorious comeback by Mason Mount, first goals of the season for Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial, a fourth for Casemiro, and vibrant displays from youngsters Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri.
No wonder Ten Hag wore the look of a man who has weathered the worst of the early-season storm after securing a second win in the space of four days.
