Former Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant has suggested that the club should seek to sign a new left-back in the January transfer window as a replacement for Andy Robertson.
Robertson, who joined the Merseyside club from Hull City in 2017 for £8 million, has been a standout performer for the club, contributing to their success in various competitions.
He is widely regarded as one of the top fullbacks in the Premier League and plays a crucial role for the Reds.
Pennant, speaking to Lucky Block as reported by The Express, believes that Liverpool’s main weakness at the moment is Robertson and suggests that the club should consider signing a new left-back in the January transfer window to replace the 29-year-old.

He also said that Robertson has reached the latter stages of his career and that the English club should aim to acquire a new attacking fullback in the upcoming window.
He also highlights Joao Cancelo as an excellent player who could be a valuable addition to strengthen the Reds’ fullback position.
He said:
“The only weakness I can see, and people may think I’m mad for saying this, is Andy Robertson. I’d like to see Liverpool move for a better left-back in January. He’s been a great servant for Liverpool, but I think he’s moving to the end of his career now. I think another attacking left-back will be needed.”
“I would have been happy with Joao Cancelo as he can play on the right or left. I was disappointed Liverpool didn’t move for him, but I’m sure their recruitment team have other irons in the fire.”
Robertson remains a crucial player for Liverpool and has made a promising start to the season. At 29 years old, he is expected to maintain his peak performance for the next few years.

Therefore, while signing a new fullback in January could be a wise move for long-term planning, it doesn’t appear that Jurgen Klopp is currently inclined to take that step.
The Scottish star has a lot to play for this season and he could prove the doubters wrong with his abilities.
