Premier League giants Liverpool are showing interest in young Brazilian defender Lucas Beraldo, as per 90min.
The Brazilian centre-back has emerged as a promising talent in South America, making his senior club debut in 2022 and becoming a crucial part of the team. He even played in the Copa do Brasil final against Flamengo.
According to 90min, Beraldo’s rapid development has caught the attention of top European clubs, including Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Wolverhampton Wanderers attempted to sign him in the summer transfer window but ended up signing Santiago Bueno instead.
The Reds have been closely monitoring the defender’s performances this season, as they seek potential long-term replacements for key defenders like Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.
Olympique Lyonnais and Monaco from Ligue 1 have reportedly dispatched scouts to watch the player. However, Sao Paulo are actively working to secure a long-term contract for the 19-year-old, despite his existing deal running until 2026.
While Liverpool considered signing a new defender this summer, they ultimately prioritized the redevelopment of their midfield under Jurgen Klopp. Nevertheless, there may come a time when they need to consider bolstering their defensive options.
Joel Matip’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season, and as of now, the club has not extended an offer for a new contract, making it unlikely that he will receive one.

Virgil van Dijk remains an integral part of the team, but given his age, the Reds need to plan for a long-term replacement.
Klopp has options in Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah has made a strong impression this season. The club is likely to closely evaluate Beraldo before considering a move for him as they look to plan for the future of their defence.
