According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are reportedly considering the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz in the upcoming January transfer window.
Although the Reds already have a variety of attacking choices, such as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz, they are exploring the market for potential additions, given the uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future at Anfield.
During the summer transfer window, there was significant interest in the Egyptian star from the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, and Liverpool had to reject at least two lucrative offers to keep him for the 2023-24 season.
However, speculation about the winger’s future remains, as his contract is set to expire in June 2025. It is also said that the 31-year-old has verbally agreed to join the Saudi Pro League next summer.
In preparation for the potential departure, the Merseyside club is considering Florian Wirtz as a replacement. Jurgen Klopp is said to have a strong admiration for the 20-year-old, who has had a promising start to the season.
In the current season, the attacker has been in remarkable form, scoring six goals and providing nine assists in 15 competitive matches for Bayer Leverkusen.
His stellar performances have helped Xabi Alonso’s team claim the top spot in the Bundesliga, sitting two points ahead of second-placed Bayern Munich.
Wirtz is under contract until the summer of 2027, and it’s estimated that a bid of around £80 million would be required to secure his transfer from Bay Arena.

However, Leverkusen are unlikely to approve a January sale if they are still in contention for the Bundesliga title.
Apart from Liverpool, other clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Bayern are also showing interest in the youngster.
