Liverpool target Nico Williams’ contract extension with Athletic Club is currently uncertain, and comments from the player’s agent are adding pressure to the situation.
The 21-year-old forward, who has been linked with the Reds, has been a standout talent for the Bilbao club since joining at the age of 11.
With ten appearances for Spain, Williams has contributed with a goal and five assists from the wings in the 2023-24 season, while Athletic Club holds the fifth position in La Liga heading into the international break.
As the winger’s contract is set to end at the end of the season, there is considerable speculation about his future, with Liverpool reportedly expressing interest.

Barcelona have also been mentioned as a potential suitor, and during the summer, Williams rejected a transfer to Aston Villa.
Nico Williams’ agent has heightened speculation about the player’s future by emphasizing that there is currently no firm contract renewal offer from Athletic Club, adding fuel to the ongoing discussions about the winger’s potential move.
Tainta while talking to El Correo, said:
“Let’s not forget that the contract ends in a few months. There is no definitive offer from the club or the player. The player should decide his future.”
Liverpool have been linked not only to Williams but also to his older brother, Inaki. The Spanish star rejected a move to Anfield back in 2019, adding an interesting familial connection to the speculation surrounding the Williams brothers and Liverpool.
The youngster has a release clause of €50 million (£43 million) in his contract, and it remains to be seen whether the Reds will be able to match that fee.
