Wasteful Leeds blew the chance to close the gap on Championship leaders Leicester to five points after being held by struggling Rotherham.
Daniel Farke’s men charged into a sixth-minute lead with a clinically-executed strike from Crysencio Summerville, who curled in his sixth goal in eight games.
From there Leeds should have pressed home their advantage but chances came and were spurned before Rotherham levelled shortly before the break through Hakeem Odoffin.
It was the managerless Millers’ only shot on target during the opening 45 minutes and poured confidence into them as the second half kicked off.
Rotherham’s last game before the international break saw them stuffed 5-0 at Watford which saw Matt Taylor axed and assistant Wayne Carlisle placed in interim charge.

Failure to beat Rotherham was a major setback to Farke’s side who arrived in South Yorkshire having won six of their past seven Championship games.
That outstanding run had marked them out as the division’s form team and they should have capitalised on their first-half chances with further goals.
Leeds led after good work from Glen Kamara in midfield and he found Georginio Rutter, whose delightful first-time pass found Summerville in space inside the left channel.
The Dutch winger advanced into Rotherham’s 18-yard box and showed poise and precision to curl his shot into the far corner of Viktor Johansson’s net.
Leeds’ raucous travelling contingent celebrated wildly and Farke’s side began to motor.

Summerville proved a constant menace on the left flank and Rutter, Dan James and Joel Piroe also showed flashes of attacking promise.
Leeds can often prove deadly on the counter-attack and one such break midway through the first half should have led to a second goal.
James broke into the box at pace but could only blaze his shot high and wide of Johansson’s goal.
Chances continued to proliferate for the visitors as Summerville had a shot well blocked by Johansson after being played in by Piroe.
Eight minutes before the break, Kamara collected a neat pass from Summerville but could only fire into the side netting.
As half-time approached, poor defending from Leeds saw them fail to clear their lines and the ball dropped to Odoffin who lashed in a low-left foot shot.
After the break, Leeds captain Liam Cooper cleared a shot from Sam Nombe off the line and in the final quarter Illan Meslier repelled Fred Onyedinma’s low strike.
In the last minute, Leeds thought they had pilfered the points as substitute Jaidon Anthony fired home but the celebrations were cut short by a raised offside flag.
