Niclas Fullkrug has endured a turbulent first few months in England with West Ham United.
West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug has been out of action since early September after he picked up an Achilles injury whilst away on international duty with Germany.
Despite a claim suggesting that he could be back in time for our clash with Arsenal in 11 day’s time, I think his absence may stretch out a little longer.
Before the 31-year-old picked up his injury, he was eased into action by Julen Lopetegui, and he seemed to be well off the pace.
The West Ham fans were supportive of Fullkrug when he arrived at the London Stadium, but were agitated that the club didn’t push harder for Jhon Duran back in the summer.
Who knows, Fullkrug may well still come good for the Hammers, but the outlook seems bleak right now.
The Germany international proved himself over the past year or so with Borussia Dortmund, and the German national team of course.
Maybe the Premier League is simply too demanding for him though.
West Ham striker woes magnified after Niclas Fullkrug claim
Wouldn’t it be nice just to have one time when we sign a striker and he’s a huge hit for us!
The centre-forward role has become a huge problem position for us since Marko Arnautovic left to move out to China in 2019.
Fullkrug is the latest in a long line of expensive striker signings who’ve failed to deliver, following the likes of Gianluca Scamacca and Sebastien Haller.
It’s not so much that any of them are bad players, it’s more that none of them have suited our playing style.
Now it seems like Fullkrug’s Hammers career could be over before it even began.
According to Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, Fullkrug could leave West Ham in the January transfer window.
The German’s struggles at the London Stadium have been well-documented, and things got even worse for him this when he fell well down the pecking order for the German national team.
Hopefully he will return to action sooner rather than later and start scoring goals consistently for the Hammers.
However, it seems like he may well be off in the January transfer window, if he does indeed regain his full fitness.
